As purchased the unit (1 bed / 1 bath) had two window units, neither of which had the option to provide heat. There was a gas fan-blown "fireplace" that could provide heat, but according to the last tenants it didn't work and they used plug in heaters from Wal mart. I'm trying to find out what the codes require, as well as suggestions from others for the best methods to provide heat in a unit without central hvac. I believe the gas-fired heater actually does work and was just hooked up incorrectly, so hopefully that will play a part in the heat supply for the home. Generally the home is two "spaces" - the living room / kitchen is one space and the bedroom / bathroom is a separate space so I would assume I'll need two heat sources.
