Dear J.P.

The only way for you to truly know if a location suits you and your family, is to visit and tour the area at differant times during the day and evening and also at differnt times during the year. Locate the closest schools and recereational facilities and also stop and ask the neighbors you happen to see any questions that may concern you.

Are you talking about visiting or staying there year around? There are tons of things to do for people on vacation but if you live there year around, the commute to schools is going to be a drag on the kids.

Longboat Key is a beautiful location, with lots to do! But I would not recommend this area for families with children. This is great resort living. But with the hectic pace and lifestyle of a family, I would suggest Sarasota or Lakewood Ranch. These areas offer much for all ages!

Longboat needs kids, but they are right - not as kid friendly. You are close to things just off the island (like Bradenton, Sarasota), but there is not even a fast food anything there. They do have some art classes, sailing classes, etc. there but its time to change it. They need new blood and kids!

I would suggest Sarasota over Longboat Key for famlies with children. The island is made up primarily of retirees and snowbirds. There aren't an abundance of kids on the island.

Longboat Key is a very nice place but I wouldn't say it's not the best place for kids. I lived on the north end of the island as a kid and there's not a whole lot to do on the island. The median age resident is nearly 70 years old. There are better choices for kid friendly neighborhoods. I would suggest Siesta over Longboat.

Longboat is a nice place to visit with kids but not to live there.

This is great family destination with everything that you could want to do. The sleep resort communities offer sailboats, windsurfing, jetskis, and many other fun activities for the family.
