Hello Dana,

I can't add new information other than what's already been said.
Just wanted to put in my two cents worth. Yes, Yes, Yes it's fine to contact a buyers agent to help with your needs.

Dana,

First, What a GREAT question!

Bravo to you for asking...

Of course you can use a Realtor to represent you after contacting the listing agent in this manner. There are Realtors who do just exactly what you describe as "Buyers Agents" and most who have the ABR or "Accredited Buyers Agent" credential are specialists in providing the independent representation you should have.

Seek out a great Realtor whom you really connect with that has that credential and you should be good to go!

Good Luck!

HI Dana,

The listing agent is a Realtor. So, you can use him/her because s/he is a Realtor. However, if you meant "could you use your own independent Realtor after contacting the listing agent for general information?" ... the answer is YES and it is recommended that you enlist the services of an exclusive, experienced, full-time Buyer's Agent to assist you.

It will be best if you allow your Buyer's Agent to contact the listing agent for information, because there are methods that good Buyer's Agents use to obtain information that will help you to make good decisions. You need to know that the information given to you by the listing agent is usually biased becasue s/he represents the seller ... not you. The listing agent was hired to sell the house for as much money as possible and with as little information as possible to protect the seller.

So, I encourage you to find an exclusive, experienced, full-time Buyer's Agent before looking at any homes and definitely before contacting any listing agent.

Yes, there is no agency relationship created by asking for general information.

Yes you can, and you should. Asking for general information doesn't obligate you to anything.
