Where is a good place to split a commute North and South?

I'm a first time home buyer looking to buy a $200,000-300,000 home that splits a commute South to the airport for my job, but also is close enough to the University of Washington that we can minimize the headache that a morning commute to classes will be with traffic. Can anyone suggest where I start looking? It seems to be a West Seattle vs. Beacon Hill decision, and I don't know very much about either area, and absolutely nothing about what a commute from each is like.

I'm thinking the reason this hasn't been answered is that is has been mis-placed in the Des Moines Real Estate Market when it seems to belong in Seattle?
