You can always tell a great school by how they treat the children with the most challenges. Baywood is the type of school that treats all children--especially those with challenges-- with dignity, respect, kindness and commitment to their overall education. Great dedicated teachers and very active parents. The only two complaints I have are that the admin is grouchy and should retire. The second complaint is the lack of funding at this school...they constantly ask parents for money because the district keeps taking more and more away from the school.

A neighborhood community school where over 140 parents volunteer on Arts & Science Day - yes, time and/or money put in through parent involvement makes this school above par. GATE kids are invited to College Park for 4/5 grades - cannot compare oranges with apples - as far as neighborhood public school

Yes---it all looks great on paper here at Baywood but parents beware.....you are expected to contribute both time and money. This will help you with better class placement each year. It is not a fair system here. Also--there is heavy emphasis on subjects that will reflect standardized test scores.

Students like our son, who is on the higher end of the curve, were not given any consideration...leading to a bored student who required private tutoring in order to stay on track. All this was left behind when we transferred to another public school: College Park...no tutoring needed, and an engaged and happy student. Read less

This school is highly overrated. The principle needs to move on. Lots of favoritism in this school. If you are part of the 'in' crowd you are golden. If not, you are branded as an outsider. The parent group discrminates against working parents. We thought this was a great school til we went to

The school has built its academic reputation on strong teachers during key grades and parent involvement at all grade levels. Besides the financial contributions, many parents spend an unbelievable amount of time in the classes especially at the younger ages when struggling kids are identified and given
... Read more one on one attention. The school has somewhat of a clique environment among the volunteering parents but it translates to a culture of competitive involvement. I cannot volunteer that much due to work but appreciate the efforts of others. The diverse student body and out of classroom activities (science fair, art shows, family math, field trips, etc.) help keep the day to day focus on education rather than test scores which I find refreshing. Advanced Placement
AP classes are college-level classes offered at the high school level. Once a student completes an AP class and passes a final comprehensive examination conducted by the College Board, the student earns college credit for the course.
